Course Description

This three-day course will clarify the role and function of a classification society. It will enhance understanding of Lloyd’s Register’s requirements for electrical and control engineering, including software-based systems, and help you to prepare for surveys leading to increased operational efficiency.

Who will benefit
The course will benefit the marine engineer involved with electrical, control and software based systems and equipment in marine applications.

Delegates should possess an appreciation of the fundamentals of electrical and control engineering, and an appreciation of Lloyd’s Register’s related Rules.

The course aims to provide knowledge in the survey of electrical and control engineering systems, to help you identify any noncompliance with Lloyd’s Register’s Rules and Regulations.

Modern ships are increasingly dependent upon electrical and control engineering installations for their operation. There is also greater use and reliance on complex computer-based systems. It is therefore essential that seagoing and shore based staff have a good appreciation of such systems, ensuring that they are maintained in an efficient operational and safe condition.

This course, run by Lloyd’s Register’s experienced, specialist surveyors, is designed to increase your knowledge of the following:

Electrical surveys, covering:
- electrical engineering installations
- new, existing and modified installations

Control engineering surveys, covering:
- control engineering systems
- new, existing and modified installations

Integrated software-based systems, covering:
- software-based systems in the marine environment
- software life cycle activities
- quality concepts
- client and surveyor relationships
