Course Description

On completion of this course, the trainee should be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and understanding of Leadership and Managerial Skills for working effectively at the Management level on board a ship as per the requirements of STCW 2010 Manila Amendments and Transport Canada TP 15337E. The knowledge, understanding and proficiency includes:

  • How to effectively manage shipboard personnel and their training

  • How to effectively manage workload and stress and fatigue

  • Effective resource management and decision making    

Prerequisites

Students must have a certificate of competency at least at the officer level (Nautical, Engineering or Electro-tech) and at least 6 months of sea service after acquiring a certificate of competency at the officer level.  The sea time must be approved by Transport Canada prior to the course and submitted to the instructor on the first day.
