UNIT 990V - Hospital Unit Clerk Program

Course Description

The Hospital Unit Clerk Certificate Program is a 335 hour part-time program that prepares graduates for the challenging and rewarding career of looking after the administrative and clerical requirements of a hospital unit. Skilled Unit Clerks (also known as Nursing Unit Assistants) who bring an excellent work ethic, attention to detail, compassion for people and a positive attitude to their jobs are needed in our health care system! These positions offer a competitive union wage, flexible hours, a fast-paced interactive environment, and an interesting variety of duties.

This program is intensive and rigorous to ensure that you are ready to work in this fast-paced and detail-oriented job. You’ll learn theory and practice from working Unit Clerks and expert instructors on evenings and weekends, and finish your program with a 110-hour practicum with a variable schedule in the last few months. Learning outcomes include:

• Basic pharmacology
• How to process medical orders
• How to process medication records
• How to maintain patient record charts
• How to effect admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Communication skills
• Employment skills

Registering for and attending an Information Session is required for students wanting to apply for this program. During this informative session, the Program Coordinator will share information and answer your questions.
